4 things you need to know about supplements..




The supplement business is certainly growing and will continue to grow into the future. With that said, there's a lot of fluff and hype going around right now. This is my attempt at cutting through the bull and giving you what you need to know. 

Health supplements can be substances you eat or drink. They can be vitamins, minerals, herbs, or different combinations of these. They can be in pill, capsule, tablet, or liquid form. Most people take them for health-related reasons. Some take them for show. Whatever your reason, check this out. I recently read an article that said about 50% of the country supplements; if you're one of these here are a couple of things to consider.

1. All health supplements are NOT created equal.

Health supplements are NOT all made the same way. That sounds simple, but most people don't realize that. Also, concentrations and quality of said vitamin and/or mineral can vary from supplement to supplement. When you're considering choosing one, read the labels so you can compare 'apples to apples.' I'll talk about checking your labels a few times in this article, it's THAT important.

2. You get what you pay for.

If you're taking vitamins because your mother said so, skip this section. If you're supplementing for a purpose, I'd suggest you look at it as an investment in your health. YES, there are probably $1 supplements at your local discount store, but they may not get you closer to your desired result efficiently. Often, supplement manufactures put JUST enough of a specific vitamin in the supplement to have it on the label. CHECK YOUR LABELS! Do your homework. Figure out what concentrations you need for optimum results and figure out what types of supplements will benefit you.

3. They are NOT a substitute for a healthy diet

Supplements are designed to bridge the gap between what you're eating and what you NEED to be eating. It's kind of difficult to get all of the nutrition you need from your diet, especially if you're on the go and not eating properly. Supplementing does NOT give you a pass to disrespect your body, and you cannot live on supplements alone. 

4. There is NO MAGIC PILL

There's nothing MAGIC about supplements. Most of the time they're merely substances you already get from food, this is just more of them in a convenient way. They can definitely help you get your desired results if used properly, but magic? No way. In fact, supplements need your cooperation to work. If you're taking 3908309854 fat burners and eating 3 pizzas and drinking a milkshake for dinner, your fat burners might be ineffective. Another idea to keep in mind. If the claims sound too good to be true, it probably is.

I own some real estate and I would never allow a tenant to stay rent free. In that same spirit I would never allow negative conversations or gossip to occupy my mind rent free. My mind is the most valuable piece of real estate I own. The ideas that live there have given me the greatest returns. To think I would allow a non-paying relationship or conversation to stay there for free when paying ideas are looking for a room is crazy!

You don't need a second job...

Follow the logic here. When most people need more money, they go get a second job. Your primary income is a job. It’s not bringing you enough income, so you look to supplement it with another one. Usually the second job is some kinda retail or unusual shift and pays less than the first one. If you think about it, it is actually more of the same. You're getting more of something that isn't meeting your needs anyway. After you work your fulltime there are only a few hours left for you to create more income. We only have 24 hours in a day, so your time is somewhat limited. You’re typically tired from the fulltime so you can only work the part time a few days a week...if they let you. Then after you take the taxes out, additional costs incurred by working and extra job (dinners out, different apparel, baby sitters) what did you REALLY bring home per hour after working and all the commuting and errands that come with it?
